SUSHI FEVER

LAS VEGAS, NV
Atmosphere: 2.5
Service: 4.5
Nigiri: 4.0
Rolls: 5.0

Day Three of a three day sushi marathon on the Las Vegas strip. Tonight my brother, Nohelia, and I are joined by Master Maguro at Little Buddha at the Palms Hotel and Casino. After the last two nights of mediocre sushi on the strip and leaving half full, I decide that if after looking at the menu I don't think we will be satisfied then we're going somewhere else. So now, here we are, at a different restaurant - Sushi Fever.

Sushi Fever closes at 11pm on Friday night and we left the Little Buddha at 10:30pm. Fortunately my brother, who drives like a Indy racer, got us there just before last call. Without hesitation we grab the menu and begin marking it up, making sure not to leave anything out for fear of leaving hungry.

Sushi Fever has a very simple and basic atmosphere inside and out; in fact, knowing where it is now, I realize I've driven by at least thirty times before. The decor is simple, nothing over the top - having the standard pictures on the wall and light japanese music in the background. The sushi bar is huge and it has it's own section of the restaurant. Peering towards it you see the sushi chefs laughing and having a good time with the patrons. However, tonight there is no time for peering...it's Play Time!

We ordered 4 Rolls: Japanese Burrito, Joe Special, Ryan Special, Johnny Roll and a Screaming Orgasm Sashimi plate. Also, 4 sets of Nigiri -Toro, Hamachi, Garlic tuna, and Super White Tuna. It's rare to stumble upon a restaurant so understated and boring that you think the food won't be that good, only to be awakened when the plates begin lowering to your table and you realize how short sighted you have been and how you must ask for forgiveness, because what you behold now can only be described as Sushi Euphoria. In the states, it's as close to what we have when in Japan you duck into a sushi restaurant the size of a postage stamp with one Sushi Chef and his assistant and embark on a sushi adventure with the same excitement as finding Spada's treasure.

I've been here on two occasions now and so it's nice to know that the consistency has remained the same. The nigiri cuts have a good rice to fish ratio; although, rightfully so some cuts aren't draping like others. The roll variety is amazing, each having it's own unique flavor although most consist of Shrimp Tempura. The roll that stood out was the Johnny Roll, pictured above, because they used thinly sliced cucumber to hold the roll together rather than nori. Now that I think of it, I wonder how they did it? The Japanese Burrito, was a baked delight with scallions, cream cheese, crab and spicy mayo sauce. And although I am not a fan of Sashimi very much, the Screaming Orgasm (which you can find throughout Vegas sushi restaurants) was delicious and was on par with the best Screaming Orgasms I've eaten.

On the west end of Vegas, Sushi Fever is the equivalent to my feelings of I LOVE SUSHI in Henderson, NV. The service was friendly, accommodating us with 15 minutes 'til close, and allowing us to let the sushi settle before brightening the lights as a to say, "that it's, time to leave, the show is over, the curtain has been raised." Yes, but how about an encore?

Sushi Fever All Rolled Up
Give yourself some time when you go to really study the menu because, with all the unique combination's, you are bound to find a new favorite roll. That is, if you can find the restaurant.
